Obituary

ONEONTA – William W. "Bill" Crandall, 83, passed into peace on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta.


He was born December 25, 1927 in Tarrytown, the son of Robert G. and Florence North.


Bill married Jennie Turk on September 14, 1947 in Hobart.


He worked with "Pa North" in the family business R.G. North Inc. Bill also was a school bus driver for 19 years at the Unatego School District then retired from the Otego branch of the United States Postal Service, where he was a Rural Letter Carrier for 17 years.


Bill was a member of the Otego Presbyterian Church, the Otego Fire Department, and was a past captain for the Otego Emergency Squad. He was an avid bowler, camper, golfer and fisherman, especially enjoying deep sea fishing.


He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jennie Crandall of Oneonta; his children, Alan W. and wife, Clara Crandall of Belchertown, MA, Claudia S. Hilts and life partner, Jack Handee of New Berlin, and Sherri L. and husband, Keith Allen of Otego; grandchildren, Michael, Jennifer, Geoffrey, Wesley, Diego, Mauricio, Jon and Nathan; great-grandchildren, Jacquilin, Diego, Maya, Landin, Xzander, Lily and Ryan; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.


He was predeceased by his parents and grandparents, Fred and Lena Crandall.


Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, August 1, 2011 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, Oneonta.


The memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 2nd at the funeral home, with the Rev. Douglas Horne, pastor of the Otego Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will follow at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.
