EAST WORCESTER - Willis VanDyke, (Bing or Grandpa), 77, of East Worcester, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2007 at the Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on April 10, 1929 in Germantown, NY, the son of Lyle and Mabel (Coons) VanDyke and step-son of Floyd Lippman.
Willis married Ellen M. Shephard on January 8, 1950 in Middletown, NY.
He was a self-employed farmer and has lived in Otsego County for 42 years.
Willis loved being around his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was especially fond of indoor and outdoor gardening, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen of East Worcester; a son, Steve and his wife, Linda of East Worcester; two daughters, June VanDyke of Bryan, TX and Mary Krukowski and her husband, Bill Crim of Little Falls; three grandchildren, Rhonda Shaw, Chris Krukowski and Samantha Krukowski; five great-grandchildren, Jordon Beverland, Devon Blood, Kaytlyn Jowett, Dakota Jowett and Ella Anderson; a sister, Annabelle Knapp and her husband, Clarence and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 8, 2007 at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, 155 Main Street, Worcester, with the Rev. Jane Pykus, pastor of the Worcester United Methodist Church, officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
