Obituary

Cooperstown - Zelma R. Ainslie, 87, of Oneonta, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Otsego Manor in Cooperstown, NY.

She was born July 17, 1925 in Oneonta and lived many years in Hartwick, NY. She was the daughter of Bertrand Roberts and Ila (Cooper) Roberts.

Zelma was predeceased by her husband, George Ainslie, and sisters, Joyce Thompsen and Doris Graig, and brother Carlton Roberts. Zelma is survived by her son, Norman Ainslie and grandchild, Elizabeth Ainslie, a brother, Bertrand Roberts and sister-in-law, Joyce Roberts and three nieces, Elaine Meyburg, Pamela Thomas, and Rebecca Yarnold, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Zelma was a graduate of Oneonta High School and State University Oneonta. She taught grade school at Davenport and Laurens Central School for 35 years. She was a member of the First United Church of Oneonta and the Oneonta Elks Club. She was a devoted wife and mother and an excellent teacher. Many of her former students live in the area and have often met with her to relate their memories of her as their third grade teacher. She enjoyed playing golf and traveling with her family and friends, and will always be remembered for her fine cooking.

Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

The funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at the Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ned Eastman, officiating.

Interment will follow at the Hartwick Cemetery.
